Job Description
Our rapidly expanding wine, cuisine, travel, and hospitality business needs a Lead Database Developer to join our engineering team. We are building the next generation customer intelligence platform for the global wine industry, aggregating the data across disparate cloud-based systems into a central data warehouse. We welcome either onsite or remote candidates with proven database modeling and programming expertise who would enjoy working in a distributed team run by Silicon Valley innovators.
In this position you will be expected to:
- Model and support a database that acts as a central data warehouse with complete customer information, including but not limited to orders, transactions and inquiries.
- Implement business logic via triggers and other data automation tools
- Provide REST API access to database operations to in-house and third-party developers in the team
- Monitor third-party data integration operations, ensuring availability, scalability, reliability, and security
- Manage mass data updates and ensure proper backup procedures are in place
Note: We use Salesforce.com to manage our database, but previous experience with this database platform is not required - we are looking for experienced database candidates who can easily wrestle with any RDBMS solution.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in database design and modeling - ability to understand business workflows and needs and translate that into efficient database designs
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience with one of the major RDBMS working on business-critical projects
- Good command of Java language for the purposes of writing triggers and/or scheduled database jobs (or another major OOP language used in business-critical systems)
- An open-mind approach to problem-solving with the ability to research, find and learn the right tool for the job, when the project requires it
- Familiarity with Salesforce.com platform is a plus, but not a requirement
- Familiarity with any type of order management and/or stock management system is also a plus
