Job Description: Mobile Apps Developer (Android; optionally iOS)

We’re looking for an experienced Android (and optionally iOS) developer to work on our Push app. Our projects help get investigative journalists' stories about corruption and fraud out and into the hands of readers across 5 continents.

You will be part of a team that develops and maintains our mobile apps and the middleware that feeds them. Working with our designer, you will deliver an important channel of distribution for our stories. You will be responsible for finding innovative ways of circumventing censorship and securely delivering content to users in hostile environments. In our small team, that means taking ownership, working directly with our users and shaping what we build.

The middleware is Ruby-based, and taps directly into the websites holding content we want to push to mobile users. Our products are open source software, published via GitHub.

The team is located in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Candidates are supported with relocation, or they can work remotely within six time zones of CET. Remote team members are expected to travel to Sarajevo periodically for planning and in-person work sprints.

Salary will be based on experience and location. Ideal candidates will be available full-time. The position is funded for at least one year (subject to a three-month probation period), with the possibility to extend longer. OCCRP is building a diverse and professional team. Citizens of the countries in which our reporting has focused are strongly encouraged to apply.

You will have the opportunity to work with in-house security/DevOps and data teams that actively contribute to OCCRP’s award-winning investigations, such as the Global Laundromat or Panama Papers. We also build data and collaboration platforms that allow hundreds of reporters in Central and Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America to work together and hold the powerful to account.
