Tourism Advisor (m/f/d) 

Part-time employment (50%)

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a worldwide provider for sustainable development which assists the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation.

 

GIZ is currently preparing a new project which supports Bosnia and Herzegovina in mitigating the economic effects generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, GIZ helps Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in metal and wood processing sectors, as well as in tourism, to ensure business continuity despite the negative effects of COVID-19. The project is jointly co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and implemented by GIZ, UNDP and ILO. 

 

Support by GIZ is provided along three intervention areas: 

  • implementation of occupational safety and health (OSH) measures in supported companies as a condition for business continuity;
  • product and business innovation and reorganization/localization of the supply chains to maintain the functioning and increase competitiveness of MSMEs, agri-food and tourism operators;
  • a Help Desk system to provide financial and legal advice to MSMEs in the sectors concerned. 

For the abovementioned project, GIZ is looking for a Tourism Advisor. 

 

Your tasks:

Overall responsibility for activities in the tourism sector supported by GIZ as part of one or more private sector development projects in BiH, including 

  • Facilitation of the Sector-specific Coordination Committee (public institutions) 
  • Facilitation of other expert/stakeholder working groups (i.e. private sector representatives, civil society, etc.)
  • Coordination of external consultants (i.e. studies/analyses, certification scheme, etc.)
  • Knowledge transfer from the GIZ tourism community to the BiH context

Implementation of the above responsibilities includes measures such as

  • Writing summaries of conceptual approaches/papers and decision proposals for working groups facilitated
  • Drafting meeting agendas, minutes, etc.
  • Organization and moderation of events and workshops (both, physically and digitally)
  • Providing input to public relations (for website, press releases, etc.)
  • Drafting terms of reference for external services needed and managing the assignments once contracted
  • Development/management of IT-tools, where required

Your qualifications/competences:

  • University degree in tourism studies, business administration, economics, or equivalent qualification
  • Min. 5 years of professional experience in the tourism sector / working on tourism topics
  • Min. 3 years of professional experience in international development cooperation / working for EU, international organizations, or in a related setting
  • Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, especially from public institutions and the private sector, including high-level officials
  • Experience as facilitator and moderator of sectoral working groups
  • Experience in organization of large physical and online events
  • Good understanding of private sector/business development
  • High affinity to ICT and experience in developing and managing corresponding communication and cooperation tools
  • Ability to express complex content in a clear and concise manner, verbally and in writing
  • Positive attitude and ability to motivate others
  • Willingness to deal with administrative tasks
  • Fluent in English
  • Experience with EU-funded projects will be considered an asset
